The racial vs nonracial issue was beside the point. She talked about the deaths of millions of people including members of my family who I know by name and face, as if they were nothing more to be concerned about than lab rats that smelled bad, because it was "just two groups of White people". I would have expected a lot more empathy from any kind of show host, and definitely from her who claims to be an ally. No, I don't think she knows that much about Jewish people or about any people who don't neatly fit into racial boxes.

Modern racial theory is inadaquate in this way. It doesn't cover everyone and the ways that it doesn't are dangerous to small groups and the way it relates to all groups together instead of individuals is also inadequate.

During a time when just being called a half-breed was a major insult, nomadic people like Jews and Roma were considered major multiracial spreaders of bad ideas, bad religion AND bad DNA from the middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe. They racialized it because they didn't have any other social tools to use at the time. We did look different than Whites in the Schengen area of Europe at that time. In today's landscape, we fit through the cracks. We're mostly White by appearance but our Whiteness is conditional. We've never really been members of the club, for values, religion, and social customs as well as ethnic practices that differ from WASPS. It's broad brush racial concepts that are the barrier to understanding the Jewish racial issue, we don't fit perfectly into those Western boxes, in part because we predate them.
