Not because they once ruled it, that wouldn't qualify. It's that they have tons of archeological evidence of thousands of years in residence. Italians don't have that in England. In fact, they speak English because England's own periodic colonization of continental Europe made it important for them to learn English. Jews whose diaspora is all over the world still speak Hebrew and use Hebrew prayers, and most have Levantine blood. I have 50% as a 3rd generation in the US. My mom is a convert.

But the other thing is, those returning from Europe bought land from rich landowners from Turkey or the British Crown. And they paid a hefty price for it. I have doubts that when you or someone you know came and bought land somewhere that you asked each of your neighbors or went to your local church or Wal Mart for permission to live in the area. Jews who never left, welcomed more Jews and were happy to see them. No one knew how many would come. it sucks that Palestinians feel they lost a say over their fate, but they were not the only ones who got land they thought they deserved in the area. Militants Palis went after Jordan who got 73% of Pali mandate, Lebanon, Kuwait and Egypt for more land and it didn't work. No one is running around shouting that they shouldn't exist, but that troublemaking is why Palis are not more welcome in the middle east.
