Many people agree with JC now. Much like Dennis Kucinich, people took time to catch up. Jews are also much more sympathetic to Palestinians here in the US, but it took time to develop.
I should mention, in her case Star Wars franchise draws people regardless of political party. She didn't upset Conservatives, but when you work in entertinment you have more pressure to be agreeable to both. The Star Wars story itself is very much a story about underdogs.
We generally don't hear about nice people who have contrary opinions because it's not good for ratings to record them. Lynda Carter and Kid Rock are much more Conservative than their audiences, same with Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. But because they tend to answer questions kindly, with common sense, and accept all fans who meet basic conduct, they don't have issues.
The Babylon 5 audience is much more Left than that, but several of the actors were Conservatives who were able to go on Bill Maher and other shows and have no issue speaking their minds. Again, because they're kind about it, there was no big news. But to hear Conservatives talk about it, you'd think there was a Witchhunt.
Some guys like Ted Nugent think all publicity is good publicity. I'd just as soon never hear from that one again.
