I think as a wife and financial partner she should have wanted to do something to reduce his struggle and should have volunteered. I do understand not wanting to blow a huge portion on this debt, especially if the interet rate is low, when there may be more pressing items with high interest. She's also correct to want to stake this money into something that earns interest as income and Susan is correct that paying a portion of his loans from that interest is a great way to contribute and take some of the load off. She should want to do more financially if she's capable.
