I saw the issue quite differently. It was not a lie, it was a politically uncomfortable statement. Politically, he should have stayed with the Venezuelan gangs. There is city council footage from Springfield Ohio backing up the claims. This got on the mainstream news in Ohio which is why he repeated it. It seems that Tim Walz also commented on a similar issue and his words were uncovered later.

The issue is not Haitians, although some could argue this problem is due to Voo Doo, I knew several in the Washington DC area. Most of them didn't even seem to eat meat, and if they did have a ritual they managed to keep it private. It never became news that I recall.

As far as hunting for food, I will never rag on people who are taking responsibility for a lack of funds by doing the work to hunt and process meat.

Springfield has a lack of jobs to accommodate a 50% increase in population inside of 5 years. It would be hard for most cities to tolerate it. Think, schools, fire department, mail, etc.

My understanding of Trump's issue was the lack of planning because people were jumping the border then asking for Asylum. Haitians have an automatic asylum policy right now that has been extended. Because our system sucks, a portion are jumping the border then asking for it instead of going through EIS which would take far too long.

The other thing they're not yet pointing out is that Repubs seems to believe that EIS under this administration is trying to move more immigrants to swing states and to open their voting privileges early, and that and financial assistance to get homes would speed up that right and make them friendly to a Democratic Administration again. This is something that needs discussing. I have no issue with incoming immigrants and think more Haitians would be fine if not great. They should get spread around so that their skills can be used properly and they can live good lives in cities with jobs and services ready.

Because his actual words on this were so few and his ability to put his foot in his mouth so legendary, I can’t be sure that only the worst interpretation is true. There are concrete reasons not to have so many new people in less than five years in a town that size, it does leave a lot of room for those less employable to flail without help. I don’t want people to flail.
