As a digital engineer I find that the main thing working from home protects me from is having to physically look at the troublemakers in the office. And while in 3/4 of my remote workplaces there have been no drama to worry about at all, people motivated to create it will find a way.

In person, it permeates everything, and often times I don't even get a break from it at lunch in the corporate world. I'm far more productive without those demands.

I would consider my solitude essential to my production level. There are many more like me. I'm happy to visit for the nice lunch, dinner or quarterly meeting, but that's about all.

If you are creating a physical product I can see the reason for more face time, but for many of us, there's no such need. What we create is essentially in the ether.
