A lot of people don't know the difference between those who are positive and those who are warm. Warm is better because it's still honest about what's happening around them as opposed to trying to inapropriately escape or deny reality for too long. The priority is on making you feel your best in a tough situation. That may not look as fun at first as "Rah Rah!" positivity, but it will hold better over time, because it's real.

As a professional woman, I have no issue with a man being down on his luck. If he keeps working, eventually the sitution will improve, and since someone like me wouldn't depend on you alone for the big income haul, there's understanding over the issue.

If someone doesn't believe in you, man or woman, you shouldn't spend much time with them. I'm sorry to read that you think there's no sympathy for men who are struggling, there is, but often men feel the need to strive for those who don't initially accept them and that can lead to attaching to the wrong set of values. I hope we're saying the same thing!
